I'm Vincent (or, as some know me, Joe). I'm 19. I wish I lived in the television, but I don't so I just obsess about it instead. My favorite shows are 30 Rock, Community, The Simpsons, New Girl, Bob's Burgers, Happy Endings, Arrested Development, Parks & Rec, Archer, Louie, and Saturday Night Live. New HBO comedy opinions
Veep - I didn’t expect it but this show is fairly hilarious. I mean, I should’ve expected it since…Julia Louis Dreyfus. But I wasn’t sure how much LOL COMEDY could be mined from a highly political setting. However, they impressed me! I really enjoyed the pilot and laughed out loud several times Tony Hale is never a bad thing either. I’ll definitely be keeping up with this one the best I can.
Girls - This one I am more mixed on. I think the writing and acting is extremely strong, but I find the characters awful. Like, they’re well-developed, but they’re awful people. I get that’s the point, and there are other comedies that have been centered around pretty bad people (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Seinfeld, you can even argue Arrested Development), but unlike those shows, Girls seems like its expecting us to sympathize with these people. I get that the show is probably doing this intentionally, it’s kind of giving us a look at a lifestyle that’s shallow and closed-minded. But I’m just not really sure I want to spend 30 minutes watching people be annoying. I respect this show, but I don’t really like it.
